Parent Information
Parent Information
The following information is for the parents of students in Penn Robotics. Information regarding the
competition is available at www.usfirst.org under “frc” at the top of the page. Click on Events to learn
about both the Purdue and Kansas City Regionals and the Championship.
Construction Phase
Kick-off is January 9, 2010. This is the start of building period for the team and parents and previous
team members help build the playing field. Everyone is welcome to attend and it is mandatory for the Robotics students.
We build the robot Monday through Thursday 1/11/10 - 2/23/10. Our normal meeting time is 6 pm - 9
pm and study tables are available right after school. Parents will provide meals at 5:30 pm. The team
will meet as needed on Fridays and Saturdays (and maybe optional Sundays). There is no zero hour
during the construction phase.
Monday 2/15/10 Presidents' Day - No school, but Robotics will meet all.
Please discuss snow day procedures with your child and contact Mr. Langfeldt if you have any
questions. The team has a phone tree that is used for last minute information.
When students are assigned to clean-up, they will be the last student to leave. If the student cannot
stay until the end, they must meet Mr. Langfeldt by 7:30 am the next morning to verify the lab is in order.
Robot Ship Deadline is February 23, 2010 at 4:30 p.m.
Competitions
Greater Kansas City Regional is March 4-6 in Kansas City, MO in Hale Arena
Boilermaker Regional is March 18-20 in West Lafayette, IN at Purdue University
Championship Event is April 15-17 in Atlanta, GA
As parents, we are there in a supporting role. We try to do anything that makes this process easier and
trouble free for the team and mentors. The main focus is food. Please see the link below to information
about providing meals during the construction phase and a calendar of meals. Parents also support the
team when they travel to competitions. Please see the link below for information about competitions. We
hope to use parent transportation to the Purdue Regional events and we will need to take a bus to
Kansas City and Nationals.
A roster with student and parent information was emailed to all parents. If you did not receive this
information, please notify Karen Sperry or Mr. Langfeldt for a copy. We greatly appreciate any help you
can provide to the team. Please contact Mr. Langfeldt or Karen Sperry if you have any questions. We look
forward to a fun and rewarding year!
