Why did you become a mentor?
My son, Tyler Leamon, is a senior in the Robotics program.
What do you do to help the team?
I am working with the drive train team to help design and manufacture a full swerve steer system.
What is your favorite memory with the team so far?
I have enjoyed seeing the creativity displayed on each sub-team. I also like to see the students develop, explain, and present their ideas during the team meetings.
What is the best part of being a mentor?
It's watching the creativity and development of the sub groups.
If you had to describe your experience as a mentor in ONE word, what would that word be?
Encouraging
What were you like in high school?
I attended class every day and worked every afternoon. I really enjoyed the mechanical classes in school. Actually, I went to Penn High School; and in 1981, Penn had nothing like the current Robotics program, but I enjoyed the machining class, drafting, and engine shop. I also enjoyed learning about mechanical systems.
What background in robotics do you have? (educational, career related, other)
In my working career I have helped to develop automative manufacturing systems, end of arm tooling and mechanical systems in the plastic injection industry.
